What is Musical Theater
Musical Theatre is a branch of Performing Arts which focuses almost exclusively on live performers creating a self contained drama. The MT division provides development, and expansion on drama (acting techniques, improvisation, body movement, stage movement, and speech), solo and/or ensemble singing (harmony & music theory) and dance combined to perform with confidence musicals. Members will be provided costumes and scripts for performances.
• Develop concepts about themselves, human relationships, and the environment by participating in role-playing.
• Understand dramatic literature, sharpen critical thinking skills by exploring the motivations of characters’ actions, analyzing emotional responses to situations, and interpreting playwrights’ intents.
• Students explore and communicate how a dramatic presentation relates to a particular time, place, and culture.
During the last week of class parents friends and the community are invited to your performances. The performance is our culmination, but it’s the process the students go through and the skills they take away with them that are the most important elements.
